NY Gov. Cuomo: Gun Confiscation And Forced Buyback An Option…

Red Flag News Reported: New York governor Andrew Cuomo says the state of New York is serious about gun confiscation. The Democrat and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development told an Albany radio station he plans to propose a package of draconian legislation during his State of the State address next month.

“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’” Cuomo said, according to the New York Times. “There is a balance here — I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters.”

Cuomo indicated the state will likely force some kind of permit process on owners of semi-automatic “assault weapons.” In addition to generating revenue and expanding the size and reach of government, the effort will allow the state to confiscate the weapons of citizens who do not comply.

“Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it,” the governor said.

Cuomo’s confiscation scheme follows remarks by liberal members of the establishment media who demand the government seize firearms from law-abiding citizens. Earlier this week, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz tweeted in favor of gun confiscation.

“We need to get guns and bullets and automatic weapons off the streets,” said CNN’s Don Lemon following the Sandy Hook massacre. “They should only be available to police officers and to hunt al-Qaeda and the Taliban and not hunt elementary school children.”

The entire debate over the cosmetics of the AR-15 (Armalite rifle, mod. 15) style of firearms is an exercise in either willful ignorance or an attempt at overbearing obfuscation ( I suspect the latter). Cosmetics do not make a firearm BAD. Following WW1, there was a trend among sportsmen to shift to bolt-action rifles in place of the single-shot and lever guns the used previously. WW2 brought a greater acceptance of auto-loading (semi-auto or self loading) firearms into the civil arena. Servicemen were comfortable with the type of firearm that they used in combat. Since Viet Nam and the various deployments since; Panama, Grenada, the Gulf conflicts, the AR-15 type rifle has come into widespread acceptance in the sporting community. This is a semi-auto type rifle, no more an “assault weapon” than the average .22 cal. rifle in common use. As far as being a HIGH POWERED weapon, most states won’t allow deer hunting with the .223 cartridge as it is under-powered for the purpose. AR-15 is sometimes referred to as a Barbie doll or a Small-block Chevy type of rifle as there are so many accessories available for it, contributing to it’s popularity. It is also possible to have this rifle configured with replacement upper units in various calibers that allow it to be used for hunting several different type of game. There are as many sporting applications for this rifle as any other, and some that most rifles would not be suitable for. To argue that this is a bad or evil gun, based on cosmetics, reveals the ignorance and small-mindedness of the one making the argument.

Well i see that you have lost your minds completely. Are you really naive enough to think that confiscating all guns will keep people from getting killed. You do realize that the bad people will still get their hands on guns and that makes every one else sitting ducks. So someone breaks into my home or they walk into a store or business and start shooting and we the people have no way to defend ourselves or the innocent. Guns will be black marketed.

I agree, don’t give them up- no matter what. History tells us that is a huge mistake.
