Pelosi: Amend the First Amendment

Problem: would this be applied to editorials, interviews, people expressing their opinions on TV and print media? Would this allow the state to take full control of the media by not allowing free reporting? Would this apply to blogs run on a corporate web platform? This may be the nail in the coffin of journalism and the final take over to state-run media if passed. Is there anything is this that affects freedom of religion?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

CNS Reported :

(House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday endorsed a movement announced by other congressional Democrats on Wednesday to ratify an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would allow Congress to regulate political speech when it is engaged in by corporations as opposed to individuals.

The First Amendment says in part: “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…”

Television networks, newspapers, publishing houses, movie studios and think tanks, as well as political action committees, are usually organized as, or elements of, corporations.

At Wednesday’s forum, a number of House and Senate Democrats were joined by representatives from People for the American Way and Common Cause in declaring their dedication to enacting a constitutional amendment to restrict speech by corporations.)

No matter the what the Bill of Rights “the First Ten Constitutional Amendments” are perfect the way they are. They do not need to be amended.
