Bankrupt Solyndra wants to pay worker bonuses

Attorneys for Solyndra Inc.    asked for permission from U.S. Bankruptcy Court to pay nearly two dozen employees bonuses of between $10,000 and $50,000.

The Fremont company that shut its factory in August has been at the center of a political firestorm over more than half a billion in federal loans and guarantees it was given.

But Solyndra’s lawyers say it needs to give the bonuses to key employees to keep them from taking other jobs while it seeks to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

It didn’t name the people it wants to give the bonuses to but none are top officers or members of the board.
