However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” – GEORGE WASHINGTON, Farewell Address, Sep. 17, 1796.

Over the last few years I’ve thought a lot about the situation our country is in. I’ve researched, reviewed, pondered and reread founding papers, original words, warnings and advice from the men who founded our Republic. Its been an eye opening journey for me.
Sometimes I’ve found encouraging words that have given me hope for a Nation that will awaken from dreams of Socialism
. Other times I’ve feared that the people are too far from truly understanding the blessing of Liberty to understand the tragic results of losing it.
Then I realized, it’s not the majority of people who want to lose these liberties and hand them over to socialism; it’s not that at all. Its leadership. Our leadership has clothed huge bills, filled with unconstitutional laws and doctrines in massive “emergencies.” Forcing these bills down our throats without a vetting process, without even having time to review the wording and ponder the long-term consequences of their actions.
The party system has begun to fail us. The leaders fight, are manipulative, are corrupt and don’t listen to the people before acting. Sure, there are a few good apples in the bunch, but we have all seen the process begin to turn more into a blame game than actual true constitutional governing. Its been going on a lot longer then what I’m comfortable with.
I firmly believe this is why our country has begun to see a decline in economic, personal and religious liberties. The power-hungry and the corrupt have begun the process of “fundamentally transforming” our country.
As Washington said, “to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” These men have taken the reins the constitution binds them too, throwing them off in a flurry of emergency’s, hidden agendas in bills they would not allow us to review; at the same time destroying the very engine that brought them to a place of elected leadership.
“ In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” – Thomas Jefferson.
Man is fallible. Man can be corrupted and bought. The Constitution however, cannot be. The Constitution is a document of great power, written in the righteous hand of liberty for all men. A document for the people and by the people.
It’s not surprising that the only way these objectives of Socialism can be achieved is to throw away the Constitution, make it no longer reverent or of purpose. If they don’t take that route, the chains of the Constitution would not allow these men to do the things they have; it would “bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
“America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” -Alexis de Tocqueville
We must be conscious of our Liberty and realize as Tocqueville did, that Americas greatness was in her goodness. Her greatness. Her ability to allow people to be free, and to allow her people to fight for liberty and attain that amazing goal.
We cannot move forward towards liberty, without looking back. We must realize that America is a Nation based on solid principles of Liberty.
I want nothing more than a restored country. My heart desires it; my mind contemplates it. My reason worries my heart is over reaching, but my soul says its attainable. We can have hope in one another, Our God, and our Constitution, and reawaken all three to a people who’s desires are for freedom.
What man does not want liberty for himself? All people want liberty. All want to be free. We can regain liberty and bind these men to the chains of the Constitution where they belong; not chaining up the Constitution to remarks made by those sworn to defend it, as irrelevant.
It’s not irrelevant! These mens’ words and actions do not make it so! They are nothing but words, lies and manipulations of the document for the people, by the people; which is actually in control of this country.
Tocqueville also stated that, “The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”
If we don’t make ourselves heard, if we don’t find another Washington… a man who desires not to be king, but to be left alone… and yet for the purpose of liberty serves his country in a means not of himself, but for Her then we are in for a rocky road ahead.
When the King of England George III. asked his American painter, Benjamin West, what Washington would do after winning independence. West replied, “They say he will return to his farm.” The King replied “If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world.”
“At the war’s end in 1783, he took affront
When asked to be king, to wear a crown.
George Washington replied, “Abhorrent!” Power-lust is for little fiends.
A moral man does not rule, nor can he be ruled by men.”
This type of discipline to the country one serves can only be described as pure, as goodness, as greatness. We must adhere to it if we desire to chain our leaders to the binds of the Constitution and have them serve us, not us be in servitude to them.
Thomas Jefferson left us some words of wisdom to adhere by. Let us not forget them:
“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
“Most bad government has grown out of too much government.”
“Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty.”
“The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.”
We need a President who has no desire to be one, we need a George Washington. Someone who is not bound by the party system, loves the Constitution, cares more about freedom then themselves. Do we make those anymore?
Let us hope and pray we do, our Constitutional freedoms are dependent on such a man.
